Installation of the solar array on the roof of the Rec Center’s east arena started Aug. 16. The Rec Center east arena solar array will have a capacity of 246 kilowatts (kW), the largest kW array on any city facility. When complete at the end of August, this project will increase the city’s solar capacity by 84%, bringing the city’s total kW capacity to 537 kW.
Other city buildings with solar arrays include Fire Station 2, the Municipal Service Center and Westwood Hills Nature Center.
