The St. Louis Park Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is hosting a training June 2 – 4 at Fire Station 1 for those who want to join metro-area CERT groups.
CERT is a national program for community members to volunteer to help their families, neighbors and communities prepare for and recover from disasters.
Training includes:
- Home and workplace preparedness
- Basic first aid and medical triage skills, such as how to do a head-to-toe assessment
- Recognizing fire and utility hazards
- How to use a fire extinguisher safely and correctly
Training is Friday evening, all day Saturday, and into Sunday afternoon. It includes hands-on exercises to practice the newly learned skills.
Training is free, open to those ages 18 and older, and is not limited to St. Louis Park residents. Many metro area communities have CERT groups, and the training is the same for all groups. Once training is complete, you can become a member of any CERT group.
Registration is required. To register or for more information, contact St. Louis Park CERT Program Manager Meg McCormick at Memccormick2007@comcast.net.
