St. Louis Park company to pay $1.375 million natural resources damages settlement

Post Date:May 18, 2023 11:05 a.m.

A May 17, 2023, news release from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) announcing a $1.375 million natural resource damages settlement agreement with Douglas Corp.

The City of St. Louis Park wants to emphasize that city drinking water supplies are safe. The contamination that resulted in this settlement agreement did not impact community water supplies in St. Louis Park. For more information about the city’s drinking water, read the 2022 drinking water report that was recently mailed to all St. Louis Park addresses as an insert to the May 2023 Park Perspective.

In addition to the assurance that drinking water supplies remain safe, the city is pleased to see that at least $1 million of the settlement will be used to fund projects designed to improve water quality in creeks, ponds and lakes; fisheries; and outdoor recreational opportunities. Funded projects will be in the area east of Highway 169 within the lower watershed of Minnehaha Creek, which includes Bass Lake in St. Louis Park.
