Boulevard tree replacement project ramps up thanks to grant

Post Date:February 07, 2024

Thanks to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ Shade Tree Program Bonding Grants, the city will be able to remove approximately 468 ash trees that are not part of the city’s emerald ash borer (EAB) preventive treatment program. The EAB is an invasive beetle that kills every ash tree it infests, if not treated early. Only untreated public ash trees on city boulevards are included in this program. About 474 replacement trees will be planted in areas where trees were removed.

Impacted properties will receive a notice at their door, and the tree adjacent to their property that is scheduled to be removed will be marked with an orange “X.”

As part of this program, the impacted properties will have the opportunity to help select the species of replacement tree! Information on how to select replacement tree species will be in the notices provided.

Email naturalresources@stlouisparkmn.gov or call 952.924.2562 with questions.

This project is made possible through funding from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
