If you drive I-394, starting on July 14, 2025, MnDOT crews will begin maintenance and repair work on 34 bridges and ramps between downtown Minneapolis and Highway 100. This project will help extend the life of the bridges, improve safety and accessibility, and make for a smoother driving surface.

Here’s what to expect:
- This summer (2025): Work kicks off in the E-ZPass lanes, which will be fully closed between downtown and Highway 100 from the start of construction through November. No vehicles will be allowed in the E-ZPass lanes during this time.
- Spring 2026: Crews will begin working on the main lanes of I-394. Traffic will be shifted to one side while the crews repair bridges underneath the westbound lanes and then flipped to finish the eastbound side.
- The Penn Avenue bridge over I-394 and some nearby ramps will also be closed during the 2026 construction season.
