DNR, MPCA asks for input on natural resource enhancement projects

Post Date:August 27, 2025 1:00 p.m.

In 2023, the State of Minnesota settled with the Douglas Corporation, a chrome plating facility in St. Louis Park, for contaminants on their building roof that spread with rain and snowmelt into the stormwater system and downstream waterbodies. The shallow groundwater layer affected by this pollution is not used for drinking water in St. Louis Park. The drinking water provided by the City of St. Louis Park is drawn from deeper groundwater aquifers. St. Louis Park's drinking water is safe and meets all federal and state water quality requirements.

At least $1 million of the settlement with Douglas Corporation will be used to fund natural resource enhancement projects within the affected area and watershed, including St. Louis Park. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, in partnership with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, is seeking input to help prioritize restoration goals and projects to be implemented. Complete the five-minute, online survey by Sept. 22 to share your thoughts.

If you have questions about drinking water in St. Louis Park, contact Jay Hall, public works director, at jhall@stlouisparkmn.gov or 952.924.2557.
