Solid waste collection updates 

• Collection delays: More information can be found on holiday delays on the collection schedule page. If a hauler reports any unplanned collection delays, they will be listed directly below. 

• Last week of yard waste collection Nov. 24 – 29 

• The brush drop-off site closed Nov. 23.

Simple Recycling

The city no longer directly contracts with Simple Recycling for clothing and textile collection. Residents may still use this service by scheduling a pickup online at www.simplerecycling.com. For other options, visit our waste reduction and reuse page and view the information under the reuse directories tab.

Christmas trees

If you put up a live Christmas tree, make sure to properly dispose of it at the end of the season. St. Louis Park offers two options for residents to get rid of trees that are 6 feet or smaller:

• Residents with city solid waste services may set live (cut) trees that are 6 feet or smaller out at their normal solid waste set out location from Jan. 5 - 23, on their collection day.
• Drop-off: Any resident, including those who live in multifamily buildings (e.g. apartments and condos) that do not receive city solid waste service, may drop off live trees at the city's brush site, located at 6215 Cedar Lake Road. The site will be open on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m..

All decorations must be removed. If you use a bag to keep needles from creating a mess inside your home, remember to remove to remove it and place it in the trash before you set your tree out at your normal solid waste setout location. Wreathes and garland often contain wire, they must be placed in the trash. 

Setting out carts

If you have curbside collection, place carts on your driveway or on the boulevard between the street and sidewalk. Ensure carts have at least 2 feet of space between them and surrounding objects, including other carts, vehicles, trees and overhead branches. This helps drivers provide safe and efficient collection while using automated trucks to empty your carts.

If you have alley collection, place carts on your property, driveway or beside your garage next to the alley. The 2-foot spacing noted above for curbside collection is not required for alleys.

During winter months, keep the area where you place your carts for collection clear of snow. This helps crews safely access your carts. Carts set on top of snowbanks or buried in snow will not be collected. Don’t place carts in the streets, alleys or sidewalks at any time of year because they get in the way of the traveling public, street sweeping operations and block snow removal. This is a year-round requirement.

Storing your carts after collection

Put carts away promptly after collection. If you must store your carts outdoors, please be considerate. The city requires that carts stored outside are behind the building line adjacent to the street and are at least 4 feet from property lines shared with a neighbor. Carts are also allowed to be stored in the alley right of way immediately next to your garage provided the cart does not extend into the alley itself. Keep in mind that any property damage that occurs during snow removal in the alley due to items stored in the right of way is your responsibility.
