Project background

The applicant requested a two-year extension for the plat and conditional use permit, which was approved by the city council. The deadline for recording the plat and beginning construction is now Feb. 20, 2028.

The project proposes the redevelopment of two houses located at 6013 and 6019 Cedar Lake Road and the construction of a 36-unit, three-story apartment building with one level of below-grade parking.

The city council approved the following applications:

  • Rezoning the two properties from R-3 two-family residence to R-4 multiple-family residence.
  • Preliminary and final plat combining the two properties into one property.
  • Conditional use permit to construct a multiple-family residence.

Public meetings

  • Jan. 30, 2024 – Neighborhood meeting was conducted. Approximately 18 people signed in at the meeting.
  • Feb. 7, 2024 – Planning commission conducted a public hearing. People spoke about the project. The planning commission voted 5-1 to recommend the city council approve the rezoning, plat and conditional use permit applications.
  • Feb. 20, 2024 – City council voted to approve the rezoning, preliminary/final plat and the conditional use permit. They set the second reading of the rezoning for March 18, 2024.
  • March 18, 2024 – second reading of the rezoning was approved by the city council.
