Programs and Events

The St. Louis Park Fire Department offers the following programs for its community members.

Car seat installation

The St. Louis Park Fire Department provides free, one-on-one car seat safety inspections to educate people on how to correctly install child car seats. Our goal is to teach you how to properly install your car seat.

Car seat safety checks are open to both residents and non-residents and take approximately 30 minutes for each seat to be inspected for proper installation. Please read the car seat installation instructions and attempt to install the car seat on your own prior to the appointment. You should also bring the car seat manual and your vehicle owner’s manual to your appointment.

Car seat safety checks are by appointment only. We're not able to accommodate walk-ins.

File of Life

Is your family prepared for a medical emergency? Emergencies can happen at any time, and when they do, every second counts.

The File of Life is a nationally recognized program that makes it easy for people to ensure first responders have critical medical information in the event of an emergency. Vital personal data such as medical conditions, allergies, medications and emergency contacts can be recorded and placed in a highly visible, red magnetic folder on the outside of your refrigerator or in a purse, wallet or backpack. The File of Life lets emergency responders see a quick medical history when the patient is unable to offer one.

The File of Life is beneficial to everyone, regardless of age. Medical emergencies can happen to anyone. Parents may find it especially useful to have their children’s information available when babysitters are present.

File of Life kits

The St. Louis Park Fire Department offers File of Life kits to residents at no cost. Pick up a kit during normal business hours at Fire Station 1, 3750 Wooddale Ave. S.

The File of Life kit includes:

  • Magnetic refrigerator folder
  • Medical card for each person living in the household
  • Wallet/purse folder and card
  • Outdoor weatherproof door/window decal

Additional or replacement cards are available free of charge.

Lockbox program

lockbox

The St. Louis Park Fire Department offers a lockbox program to any resident in the city who may have concerns that in case of emergency, they may not be able to reach the door to let in first responders. Upon request, a secure lockbox is provided and placed at the entrance door of the resident's home. A key to the home is placed within the lockbox, which can only be accessed by special key carried by police and fire personnel. If someone calls for help and no one is there to meet them, firefighters or police officers can open the door with the key inside the lockbox instead of forcing the door open and causing damage and additional cost.

The lockboxes are offered to St. Louis Park residents for a one-time fee of $50, which covers administration of the program for as long as the resident requires it. The lockbox installs easily and holds one key.

If a resident moves or no longer requires the lockbox, it can be returned to the fire department. If you have changed your locks and need to update the key, contact the fire department.

View the lockbox information video below for more information and to see how the lockboxes are installed.

Smoke Alarms for Seniors Program

You must be a St. Louis Park resident to be eligible to receive smoke alarms.
