Building Operations Champion Cost-Share Program
The city is offering cost-share funds for Building Operator Certification (BOC) training in an effort to develop the local workforce and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This training for commercial, industrial and multifamily building employees focuses on efficient building operations, saving owners money and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The nationally accredited BOC training is offered by the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. Typical participants include building engineers, maintenance personnel, HVAC technicians and electricians. The comprehensive training helps building operators increase energy efficiency, reduce operating costs and improve safety. Training also includes information on the newest energy technology available and best practices from firsthand experts in the field.
Building personnel can sign up for the next BOC level 1 training or BOC multifamily training on the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance's website.
After you or your employee completes the BOC training, you may apply for the cost-share funding. Find details below on how to apply.
Eligibility requirements
- BOC training attendee must work in facilities management or operations at an existing commercial or multifamily (5+ unit) property located within the City of St. Louis Park.
- Applications limited to one building operator per building.
- Applicant must be the property owner or manager.
Cost-share amounts
BOC level 1 training: $545 – $595
- $1,695 starting cost
- $100 standard cost share
- $150 cost share for building owners whose BOC certified workers are from traditionally underrepresented groups*
* The City of St. Louis Park is committed to environmental stewardship and race equity and is offering a higher rebate to building owners whose BOC-certified workers are from traditionally underrepresented groups. Our goal is to remove workplace barriers and increase the skilled building operations workforce by providing underrepresented groups with the resources and tools they need to succeed.
BOC multifamily training: $50
- $150 starting cost
- $100 standard cost share
How to apply
To apply for the cost-share program, complete the online Building Efficiency Champion cost-share application and submit your or your employee's Building Operator Certification (BOC) exam completion certificate. Submit the certificate no more than 12 weeks after receiving a passing score on the exam.
You will be notified of your application status within 15 business days of receipt.
Note: Applicants are responsible for completing their own tuition rebate applications from Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy.

The following are the program rules and procedures:
- The City of St. Louis Park reserves the right to revoke the funding if the applicant violates program rules and procedures.
- Applicants must attest that the worker(s) are from traditionally underrepresented groups if requesting the $150 rebate level.
