Traffic impacts

  • Cedar Lake Road (Rhode Island Avenue to Kentucky Avenue) and Louisiana Avenue (Fire Station to Railroad Bridge) - CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC
    • Through traffic should use the posted detour
    • There will still be street and pedestrian access to all the businesses in this area during road construction.

      • Louisiana Avenue (south of Cedar Lake Road) is closed to traffic.
      • Access to businesses and Nevada Avenue to be maintained from Louisiana Avenue (north) and Cedar Lake Road (east). 
      • This is a great opportunity for the community to show support! By shopping local, dining out and visiting as usual, you help businesses stay strong during the construction period. Your support not only helps maintain momentum, but also ensures these businesses continue to thrive long after the project is complete.

    Construction project updates

    • Cedar Lake Road (Rhode Island Ave to east of Nevada Ave)
      • Week of July 13
        • The grading and installation of concrete curbs, sidewalks and driveways are ongoing this week.
        • The contractor will start grading the gravel base in preparation for paving. They will be working on Saturday, July 18 to finish the grading operation. 
        • Contractors are working on the installation of conduits and bases for the street lighting. 
      • Week of July 20
        • Paving of the first layer of bituminous street pavement has been rescheduled for Monday, July 20 (tentative, weather dependent).
        • After paving is complete, the contractor plans to start placing new topsoil in the boulevards and impacted areas. 
      • Week of July 27
        • The contractor will start installing streetlight poles. 
    • Intersection of Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Avenue
      • Week of July 13 
        • The replacement of watermain, sanitary and storm sewer is ongoing and will continue for the next 2 weeks. 
        • Retaining wall work is ongoing. Installation of new walls has started and will continue for a few weeks. 
      • Week of July 20
        • CenterPoint Energy contractor will be on site to relocate gas main in and near the intersection. Their work will occur for approximately 3 weeks.
          • Other private communication companies will also be doing minor relocations at this time as well.  
        • The replacement of watermain, sanitary and storm sewer continues.
      • Week of July 27
        • Weather dependent, the contractor will start placing and grading the gravel base in preparation for upcoming concrete installation.
      • During August, construction will transition to rebuilding the roadway, and you should begin to see noticeable improvements in access as the new road takes shape. Up to this point, much of the project's progress has been underground, so while significant work has been completed, it has not yet resulted in visible improvements.

    Reminder: Private improvements in the right of way

    The contractor will be working in the public right of way. If you have private improvements such as underground sprinklers, electric wiring, perennial gardens, or invisible fences within 15 feet of curb, it is likely that they are in the public right of way. Removal and reinstallation of these items are the responsibility of the property owner. Plan on removing these items from the public right of way as soon as possible. Private improvements that are not removed may be damaged during construction. Property owners are responsible for repair or replacement of damaged items. If you have questions, contact the project coordinator.

    Private utility work

    Private utility companies will be relocating their services throughout the project area.

    MnDOT project updates and closures

    • MnDOT has closed Wayzata Boulevard between Hampshire Avenue and Colorado Avenue.

      • Wayzata Boulevard, the frontage road on the south side of I-394, will be closed to through traffic between Hampshire and Colorado avenues in both directions from July 6 through mid-September.

      • The road will remain open for business and resident access. 

      • Westbound Wayzata Blvd. detour: From Park Place Blvd., go north over I-394; west on Golden Hills Dr. to Wayzata Blvd. to Market St., then south on Louisiana Ave. over I-394 to Wayzata Blvd.
      • Eastbound Wayzata Blvd. detour: From Louisiana Ave., go north over I-394; east on Market St. to Wayzata Blvd. to Golden Hills Dr., then south on Park Place Blvd., west on 16th St. and then north on Zarthan Ave. to Wayzata Blvd.
