Minimum qualifications

Below are the minimum qualifications:

  • Postsecondary degree from a regionally accredited college
  • Successfully complete a board-approved Professional Peace Officer Education program

Completing these requirements allows candidates to take the Minnesota Peace Officer Licensing Examination.

Cadet program

The police department's cadet program is designed to provide part-time employment (20 – 29 hours a week) for those currently enrolled in a regionally accredited, postsecondary peace officer education program. The candidate must complete their POST requirements for licensure within 48 months of entering the cadet program.

Cadets are eligible for 100% of peace officer education tuition reimbursement with a maximum of $5,000 per year.

Minimum qualifications

  • 18 years of age
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Valid Minnesota driver's license
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete college level course work
  • No felony convictions
  • Ability to pass a thorough law enforcement background investigation
